Costs & Timing

Repairs in Wellesley typically range from $80 to $400. A sensor realignment or remote reprogramming runs on the lower end; a broken torsion spring usually falls between $150 and $280 with parts and labor; cable and off-track repairs land around $100 to $200; and a full opener replacement reaches $250 to $450 depending on the model. We give a free on-site estimate before any work begins, so the price is always clear upfront.
Most same-day repairs take between 45 minutes and 2 hours from arrival. Our vans carry common springs, cables, rollers, and opener parts, so the majority of jobs are finished in a single visit. Larger projects like a full door replacement may need a scheduled follow-up if a specific part has to be ordered.
Emergency and after-hours pricing is quoted upfront, the same way as our daytime service — no inflated surprise fees. You will always know the price before we start the work, even at 11pm on a weekend.

Repairs & Safety

No. Garage door springs carry most of the door's weight, which can be 200 to 400 lbs. Operating the door on a broken spring forces the opener to do work it was not designed for and can drop the door suddenly. Leave it alone and call us — this is not a safe DIY repair.
Yes, and it is one of the more urgent repairs we handle. A door goes off-track when a cable snaps, a roller pops out, or the door gets bumped. Do not force it — that can bend the track further or damage panels. We realign rollers, straighten or replace bent track, and check the cause to prevent a repeat.
Grinding, squeaking, or sluggish movement signals worn rollers, loose hardware, a struggling motor, or aging springs. Left alone, a minor $75 to $150 service call often turns into a $250-plus spring or cable replacement — or a door that fails entirely. A quick tune-up usually resolves early-stage noise and extends the life of every moving part.

Springs, Openers & Doors

Torsion springs mount horizontally above the door and store energy by twisting; most modern homes use them and they last longer and run more smoothly. Extension springs run along the side tracks and stretch as the door closes; they are common on older, lighter doors and should always have safety cables threaded through them.
Lean toward replacement if the motor is more than 15 years old, lacks auto-reverse, has needed repeated fixes within a year, or the repair cost approaches half the price of a new installed unit. Modern openers add quiet belt drive, battery backup, and Wi-Fi control. We give you an honest repair-or-replace recommendation for your specific setup.
Yes. We service CHI, Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, and Overhead Door doors, and LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman, Marantec, and Linear openers, among others. We stock parts for many older models too, and will tell you honestly when a very old unit is better replaced than repaired.

Maintenance

Apply a silicone-based lubricant (not WD-40) to rollers, hinges, and the spring every 6 to 12 months. Inspect cables for fraying and the spring for cracks every few months. Test the auto-reverse by placing a flat 2x4 in the door's path — if it does not reverse on contact, call us for a safety adjustment. Keep the tracks clear and wipe down the weatherstripping yearly.
Once a year is the sweet spot for most homes, ideally in spring or fall before the temperature extremes. Households that use the garage as their main entrance cycle the door far more and may benefit from service every six months. A yearly tune-up catches worn parts before they fail.
